People Still Want People When It Comes to Insurance
AI and online tools are changing how consumers research and shop for insurance—but they aren’t replacing the value of a trusted insurance professional.
A new survey reported by Insurance Journal found that 87% of consumers say having a human insurance agent is important when making insurance decisions. Interestingly, 61% said they would prefer an agent who uses AI to make the process faster and more personalized. (Insurance Journal)
I recently experienced this myself. I work in the insurance industry, yet when it came time to shop my own insurance policies I wanted expertise on the final product. I used technology to research and compare—but I still wanted a real person to help me evaluate the specific coverage and make the final decision!
That’s the opportunity for independent agents: don’t compete with AI—use it. Let technology make you faster and more efficient, while you provide what technology can’t replace: experience, judgment, relationships, and someone your client can actually call when the decision matters.
The future of insurance isn’t AI vs. the agent. It’s a better agent, powered by AI.
